Sattarov Magsad Mahammadali oglu
Corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Magsad Sattarov was born on May 13, 1924 in Gazakh region.

M.Sattarov graduated from the Philosophy Department of the History Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University in 1950.

M.Sattarov defended PhD dissertation in 1954 and doctor of sciences in 1964, and in 1968 received the title of professor. In 1989 he was elected a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.

M.Sattarov worked as head of department of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

M.Sattarov's scientific activity mainly covered the history, theory of religion and atheism, as well as trends in the development of public consciousness. He explored the role and place of Islam in the spiritual and cultural life of Azerbaijan, such as atheistic views in Azerbaijan, the structure of social consciousness and its interactions, and ways of renewing and improving public consciousness. Dozens of collections and books published by him have been highly appreciated by the philosophical community as well as by the wider readers because of their relevance and scientific and theoretical level.

M. Sattarov is the author of 10 monographs, 4 books, 21 brochures and about 60 articles. He was also a member of the editorial board of several scientific publications.

M.Sattarov had a great role in training highly qualified specialists in philosophy. More than 30 candidates of sciences and doctors of sciences defended dissertation under his supervision.

M.Sattarov, as a veteran of war and labor, was awarded various medals and honorary orders.

Corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Magsad Sattarov died in 2000 in Baku.
