Kerimov Mahmud Kerim oglu
Kerimov Mahmud was born on October 18, 1948 Yerevan. In 1971 he graduated from Azerbaijan State University. In 1979 Mahmud Kerimov defended PhD, in 1989 - Doctoral dissertation in Physical and Mathematical Sciences and in 2000 he received the academic title of Professor. In 2001 he was elected as an active member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. He was also president of the National Science Found (2002-2013), chief editor of the Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia (2004-2013). He was elected an honorary member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and Kazakhstan National Academy of Sciences. The scientist made a valuable contribution to the development of physical science in our republic. Mahmud Kerimov, with his intensive scientific activity, played an important role in enriching the fields of radiation physics and computer science with new knowledge. The main direction of his research was related to the physics of dielectrics. The scientific results obtained by him, have always been distinguished by their relevance, fundamental theoretical and applied value.Mahmud Kerimov also conducted research in the field of radioecology and radiation material science, which are of great importance for our republic in terms of solving scientific and technical problems in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. The radiation research sector, which he managed for a long time, became one of the influential institutions of ANAS and was perceived in the international community as a solid scientific structure. In the field of physics of molecular information converters, elementary electronic and molecular processes occurring in high-molecular systems due to the influence of strong electric fields were first studied, the possibilities of controlling the properties of materials using an electric field were established, and the mechanisms for memorizing and transforming information by macromolecules were clarified. The mechanisms and kinetics of the formation of point defects in oxide dielectrics due to the effect of radiation and rarefied electric plasma, as well as the conversion of radiation energy into chemical energy in the processes of radiation and catalytic decomposition of water are investigated. Rational methods for producing hydrogen from water have been proposed.M.Kerimov is the author of more than 200 scientific works and discoveries. Under his leadership were prepared eight PhD and two Doctors of science. He also was awarded the Order "Shohrat."Academician Kerimov Mahmud died in 2013 in Baku, buried on the Alley of Honor.
