Baghirzadeh Faig Mammad oglu
F.Bagirzade was born in 1926 in Baku. In 1949 he graduated from Geological-Exploration Department of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (now Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University) with a speciality in Engineering and Geology.

F.Bagirzade was PhD on geology-mineralogy in 1953, he was a doctor of science in 1964, in 1976 he was a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, and in 1983 he was elected as an active member.

F.Bagirzade started his career in 1949 at Gobustan Oil Exploration Trust and in the same year entered the post graduate course at the Department of Geology of Oil and Gas Field of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. In 1951- 1953 he worked as an engineer-geologist at the Oil Rocks Department of the Offshore Exploration Drilling of the Azneft Union and worked as an engineer-geologist and party leader at the Wild Thematic Party of the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Oil and Gas Geological-Exploration. In 1952-1954 he worked as an assistant at the Department of Geology of Oil and Gas Field of the Azerbaijan. From 1954 to 1962 he worked as a senior lecturer and assistant professor of the department. In 1962-1965 he was dean of the Geological-Exploration Faculty of the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry.

F.Bagirzade worked as Professor of Rangun Technological Institute in the Republic of Birma in 1964-1965. In 1965-1970 he worked as Dean of the Foreign Students Education Faculty of the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute (present ASİU) Professor of the Department of Geology of Oil and Gas Fields and Head of the Department in 1966-1970.  F.Bagirzade  was appointed the rector of the Azerbaijan State University (present Baku State University) in 1970. With his participation the university's educational and material base has expanded significantly, new departments, the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, and an inter-institutional research computing center was opened.

F.Bagirzade was a prominent scientist in oil geology and geochemistry of oil and gas fields in the South Caspian. He has studied the prespectives of oil and gas fields ("Guneshli" structure) number of fields in the Caspian Sea.

F.Bagirzade has published more than 100 scientific works, including 12 monographs, numerous textbooks and teaching aids on various problems of geology and geochemistry.

He has had great services in the preparation of scientific staff.  

F.Bagirzade was  awarded with the "October Revolution" and "Red Labor Flag" orders. In 1980, he was awarded with honorary title of Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan USSR. He was awarded the Azerbaijan State Prize for a compilation of "Map of oil and gas deposits and prospective structures of the Azerbaijan USSR" together with a group of scientists.

Academician Faig Bagirzade died in 1988 in Baku.
