Ismayilzadeh Arif Jafar oglu

Arif Ismayilzadeh was born on August 14, 1937 in Baku in an intellectual family. In 1959, he graduated from the Geological Exploration Faculty of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute (now the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy) with a degree in engineering and geology. In 1968 he received the degree of PhD in geological-mineralogical sciences, in 1990 he received the degree of doctor of sciences, in 2001 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, and in 2007 he was elected an active member of ANAS.

Since 1959, the scientist has worked at the Institute of Geology as a junior researcher, senior researcher, laboratory manager. Since 1996, he has been an expert of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Higher Attestation Commission. In 2005 he was appointed the head of the section of Petrology and Metallogeny of the Institute of Geology of ANAS. In 2007-2013 he was the academician-secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences of ANAS, since 1995 he was the executive secretary of the National Committee of Azerbaijan Geologists.

A.Ismayilzadeh has been a member of the editorial boards of “News” (Earth sciences series) and “Works of the Institute of Geology of ANAS” journals of ANAS since 2001.

Since 2002, he has been teaching elective subjects to master graduates at the Department of Minerals of the Faculty of Geology at Baku State University.

The results of the geologist's research are reflected in 5 monographs, including more than 170 scientific works. Among them are the volumes of the eight-volume fundamental work "Geology of Azerbaijan", "Magmatism", "Tectonics", "Minerals", "Geology and Volcanism of Talysh", etc.

He has repeatedly represented Azerbaijani science with dignity at international congresses, symposiums, conferences and meetings held in various countries around the world.

A.Ismayilzade's activity was highly appreciated by our state and he was awarded the honorary titles of Honored Geologist, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, "Order of Shohrat".

Academician Arif Ismayilzadeh passed away on April 9 at the age of 82.
