Basic activity directions   Creation of bioinformatics analysis tools - data bases and methods for the elucidation of regulation mechanisms of expression of eukaryotic and prokaryotic genes. The study of organization, expression and evolution traits of eukaryotic genomes. The study of the phenomenon of DNA (gene) transfer to nucleus from plastids and mitochondria in various higher plants. 
Main scientific achievements  Bioinformatics analysis tools have been created in collaboration with researchers of Royal Holloway college of London University, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, Softberry - Bioinformatics Company of USA and Pakistan Information Technological Institute - COMSATS: PlantProm data base for plant RNA polymerase II (Pol II) promotors, TSSP-TCM and TSSPlant computer programs for the search of plant Pol II promotors, PromH and PromHP computer programs for the search of Pol II promotors in orthological gene pairs of eukaryotes, bTSSfinder computer program for the search of promotors belonging to various sigma classes in the bacterium Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria, POLYAR computer program for the search of polyadenination sites of initial mRNAs in the human genome, Nsite, NsiteH and NsiteM computer programs for the search of the transcription factor binding sites in animal and plant DNA sequences. DNA sequences of plastid and mitochondrial origin have been revealed in nuclear genomes of some higher plants and their possible functional and evolutionary roles have been elucidated. Gene loci inducible by the transcription - potential chimeric genes have been revealed in nuclear genomes of Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa. japonica. Potential promotor maps of various bacteria and nuclear genomes of some higher plants have been established using TSSPlant computer program. Based on the analysis of these maps, it has been suggested that the transcription of the same DNA region from alternative promotors in higher plants and bacteria is a widely spread phenomenon.
