| Establishment history | In 1932 on the base of Scientific Research Institute of Azerbaijan Republic Institute of Literature and Art was established, then in 1936 joined Institute of Literature and Language was founded. Institute of Linguistics which is known as the main scientific research body in the field of Linguistics was established on March 27, 1945, on the same day with the establishment of NASA. It was approved in that very year and became one of the four scientific research institutes formed on Public Sciences Department. The organization was named after Azerbaijan’s great poet I.Nasimy in 1973. |

| Basic activity directions | Not only determining the priority inclinations of the scientific work and developing perspectives of the Azerbaijani language and Linguistics, but also increasing research work in linguistics and studying the Azerbaijani language through using contemporary linguistics traditions are among the main profiles of this body. At the same time this organization has aimed to prepare grammar of the Azerbaijani language according to the modern requirements and to compile various types of dictionaries (monolingual, bilingual, etymological, phraseological and so on) and their electronic version are also included into the programme of this body. Comparative study of the Azerbaijani language with related languages in the region and in the world, preparing of highly qualified specialists in linguistics and also arranging of complex programmes related to the development of the Azerbaijani language and linguistics via usage of modern technologies are among the main goals of this organization. There are also some projects according to which studying of dialects and accents of the Azerbaijani language on the basis of the new materials, determining of term borrowing principals and their usage, studying of ancient languages and cultures and of course preparing highly qualified specialists on this field are among the main goals of this organization. | |
