President of ANAS Akif Alizadeh met with the manager of “Geodynamics of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Caucasus” project of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of the United States Dr. Robert Reilinger at Presidium of ANAS.

Vice-president of ANAS, academician Ibrahim Guliyev, Secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences, Academician Fakhraddin Kadyrov, head of International Relations Department of Central Office of Presidium, PhD in geological-mineralogical sciences, professor, Ghulam Babaev attended the event.

 The main goal is to continue the existing cooperation between the two organizations, as well as discussions in the direction of education and internationalization.

President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh welcomed the guests and spoke about relations with MIT since 1998. Joint researches has been carried out in the areas of Geodynamics and Seismology in Azerbaijan’s territory, and GPS (Global Positioning System) and monitoring stations installed. The results of this research will lead to the achievement of world-class scientific innovations, he said.

He expressed confidence that the laboratory would contribute to the popularization of science in the world.

Then, memorandum between Institute of Geology and Geophysics and Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences Department of MIT for the purpose of creating joint international laboratory “Geodesy and Geodynamics Laboratory” was signed.
