On September 16, with the support of ANAS Institute of Geography has started XVIII joint session on “Geographical problems of the Caspian Sea region and the achievement of sustainable development” Joint Scientific Council of the Association of fundamental geographical problems of the International Academy of Sciences and the Joint Council on fundamental geographical problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Russian Academy of Sciences).
International forum was attended by about 50 scientists from Azerbaijan, Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, Irkutsk, etc.), Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia and other countries.
Head of the Department of Geodynamics and Seismology, Geology and Geophysics Institute of ANAS corresponding member of ANAS Fakhraddin Gadirov gave information about the issues on the agenda. He spoke about the geodynamic model oil and gas potential of the South Caspian basin.
Then director of the Institute of Geography of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mammadov spoke on “The impact of climate change and anthropogenic pressures on the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea.”
The session discussed a wide range of physical and, economic and socio-geographical problems of the Caspian Sea region, as well as sustainable development of territories of different geographical scales (regional and local) in Eurasia.
It should be noted that there were also organized tours of Baku, coastal areas of the Caspian Sea and the eastern slope of the Greater Caucasus.
International Forum has concluded its work on 20 September.
