Interschool Astronomical Olympiad kicked off at Baku State University (BSU).
Rector of BSU PhD in Physics-mathematics Elchin Babayev, director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasraddin Tusi of ANAS Namig Jalilov, welcoming about 150 Baku schoolchildren participating in the Olympiad, wished them success in demonstrating their knowledge and skills.
It was noted in the speeches that the main goal of the project is to increase students' interest in the field of astronomy, encourage public interest in this field so that more attention is paid to it in the education system, and creation of a competitive environment.
The winner of the "III grant competition for development and innovation in education" Abdullah Bazarov informed about the conditions of the Olympiad, its issues, then the popular science film "Creation and development of the Universe: a journey through time" was shown.
The organizers of the Olympiad are BSU, Republican Center for the Development of Children and Youth, Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory and the Tusi-Bohm Planetarium.
Note that the Olympiad is held as a part of the III contest of grants for development and innovation of the Ministry of Education, the winners of the competition will be awarded with certificates and prizes.
