Institute of Geography named after Hasan Aliyev of ANAS has conducted research on the topic "Dynamic changes in the geosystems of Azerbaijan as a result of natural and anthropogenic impacts and the problems of their forecasting."

Institute staff studied the dynamics and optimization of landscape-ecological diversity of the Lankaran geosystems and developed a landscape map. It became known that from the beginning of the 19th century to the present, the steppe landscapes of Southern Mughan have expanded their borders to a forest landscape of up to 20-25 kilometers. The geochemical features of the study area are currently being studied.
