On February 1, famous scientist, chairman of the Ganja Division of ANAS, Honored Scientist academician Fuad Aliyev turns 70 years old.

The whole life and scientific activity of a scientist is an example of serving the national science, our Motherland and the people.

Fuad Aliyev was born on February 1, 1950 in Ganja, graduated from the chemical faculty of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University), and since 1974 he worked as a laboratory assistant, engineer at the Institute of Additive Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.

It should be noted that, taking into account the scientific research carried out at the Center, it was later assigned the status of a Regional Scientific Center. In accordance with the Decree of the President of December 19, 2012, the Ganja Division of ANAS and seven research institutes under its management began to operate on the basis of the Ganja regional scientific center. Currently, the Center carries out important research on the history, culture and literature of Ganja, the study of natural resources and the ecological balance of the western region, ancient art and folklore.

F. Aliyev defended his thesis in 1981 on topic “Synthesis of asymmetric disulfides as additives for lubricating oils”, and in 1992 his doctoral thesis “Synthesis of asymmetric disulfides, thioamides of carboxylic acids and dithiocarboxylic acid esters as additives for lubricating oils”. In 2007 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, and in 2014 – an active member. The scientist is a member of the Presidium of ANAS.

A chemical scientist is the author of 180 scientific papers, 17 inventions and 10 monographs. The main focus of his research is the synthesis of new sulfur-organic compounds and the use of lubricants of various properties using them as additives. For the first time, scientists have studied the synthesis of asymmetric disulfides and obtained more than one hundred new compounds and based on them, high-quality additives for lubricating oils have been synthesized. These additives have been tested in our country and abroad. Received positive results.

The scientific and scientific-organizational activity of F. Aliyev has always been highly appreciated by the state. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2005 he was awarded the “Tereggi” medal, in 2006 the honorary title “Honored Worker of Science”, and in 2017 the Order “For Merit to the Motherland of the 3rd degree”.
