Vladimir Putin signed a decree on awarding prizes of the President of the Russian Federation in the field of science and innovation for young scientists for 2019.

Three scientists became laureates. Marina Shirmanova, candidate of biological sciences, deputy director for science at the Research Institute of Experimental Oncology and Biomedical Technologies of the Volga Research Medical University of the Ministry of Health, received one of the prizes. She was awarded for achievements in the study of oncological processes using in vivo fluorescence bioimaging methods.

M. Shirmanova conducts a wide range of in vivo studies (inside living tissue) aimed at studying the functional characteristics of tumors and developing new therapeutic approaches. Her work deals with important biological aspects of tumor growth, the understanding of which was made possible only thanks to the modeling and observation of the tumor in a living organism. Scientometric indicators (number of publications / Hirsch index): WoS - 85/15, Scopus - 103/18, RSCI - 140/16. The total number of patents is 7.
