An unusual star, unique in its kind, was discovered 1,500 light years from Earth. The mass of an unusual pulsar is 1.7 times the mass of the Sun. But a unique star is not why. As scientists have found, it pulsates in only one hemisphere.

“The first thing that caught my attention was the peculiar chemical composition of the pulsar. Such stars are usually quite rich in metals, but this one contains a very small amount, which makes it a rather rare type among its hot relatives, ”said one of the authors of the scientific work, Simon Murphy from the Sydney Institute of Astronomy.

Until now, scientists believed that pulsar oscillations are usually evenly distributed over their entire surface. However, this star behaves unusually. As it turned out, the whole thing is in the neighbor. Not far from the pulsar, scientists discovered a red dwarf. It is he who distorts the vibrations with his gravitational attraction.
