Discussed the importance of studying folklore patterns from a comparative historical point of view

On April 22, an online seminar of the Department of Folklore and Written Literature of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS was held.

The theme of the seminar was “The Importance of Studying Folklore Patterns from a Comparative Historical Point of View”.

Head of the Department of Folklore and Written Literature, corresponding member of ANAS Kamran Aliyev said that humanity has always been interested in studying its past and was proud of its achievements, embodied in the memory and material and spiritual monuments of past centuries in various forms and contents. A person who has passed all historical trials has reached a new cultural upsurge and was able to determine the most modern values of economic, political and spiritual development. In addition to archaeological research, folklore and mythological texts are one of the areas that help researchers in this work.

Then, a doctoral student under the program of preparation of the doctor of sciences of the department Fidan Gasimova delivered a lecture on "The cult of a tree in Oguz and Celtic folk texts". It was emphasized that the study of folklore from a comparative historical point of view is important for identifying the sources of human thought and understanding the essence of rapprochement of peoples.

Along with the Kitabi Dada Qorgud epics, the speaker created a broad picture of the mythological roots of the tree cult based on examples from other oral traditions, as well as from the Celtic sagas, mainly in Scotland and Ireland.

PhDs in Philology Khayal Aghayev, Aynur Ibrahimova, Aitaj Abbasova, Aposh Valiyev, Gulnar Osmanova, Sevinj Aliyeva, Shabnam Mammadova expressed their opinions.
