On May 8, with the organizational support of the Faculty of Philology of the Azerbaijan University of Languages ​​(AUL), an online conference “Heydar Aliyev and Language Policy” was held, dedicated to the 97th birthday of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev.

The conference was opened by the director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, head of the Department of Azerbaijan Literature at AUL, academician Mukhtar Imanov. In his speech, the scientist spoke about the activities carried out by the great leader Heydar Aliyev during his leadership of the country and aimed at the formation of the Azerbaijani language as the state language of the republic, its protection and development. He said that an outstanding statesman has always considered the Azerbaijani language as the basis, the foundation of the system of national moral values, as well as one of the basic principles of the ideology of Azerbaijanism and the most important factor of solidarity of Azerbaijanis all over the world.

Mukhtar Imanov added that Heydar Aliyev considered national moral values ​​and national mentality to be an important component of universal human values: “Valuable works created in this language are both the national wealth of the Azerbaijani people and the wealth of the peoples of the world. From this point of view, attention is drawn to the activities in the field of development of the mother tongue carried out by Heydar Aliyev during his leadership of Azerbaijan in the Soviet period. In 1974, textbooks “Modern Azerbaijani Language” were published for higher schools, which were subsequently awarded the State Prize. In 1978, thanks to the efforts of Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani language was approved in the Constitution as the state language of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. ”

Then the speaker spoke about the indispensable merits of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of the Azerbaijani language after the restoration of the state’s independence, as well as its protection from the negative influence of the globalization period, as evidenced by the decrees “On improving the use of the state language” (June 18, 2001) and “ On the establishment of the Day of the Azerbaijani alphabet and the Azerbaijani language "(August 9, 2001).

It was noted that the wise policy of the national leader Heydar Aliyev has been successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev. The head of state, always paying great attention to language and culture, signed important documents aimed at developing these areas.

Then, lectures were presented on the topics: “Heydar Aliyev: language and culture”, “Heydar Aliyev and the state language”, “Models of complex sentences in the speech of Heydar Aliyev”, “Literature factor in the teachings of Heydar Aliyev on statehood”, “Heydar Aliyev’s Strategy for protection of the Azerbaijani language ”,“ The national leader who created history. ”
