British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca expects to begin mass production of the vaccine from COVID-19, which is now being developed in conjunction with the University of Oxford, in September, if the tests are successful.

"The company concluded the first contracts for the supply of at least 400 million doses, has already provided an opportunity for the production of a billion doses and will begin the first deliveries in September 2020," the company said in a statement.

"We would like to thank the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom for their substantial support in accelerating the process of developing and producing the vaccine. We will do everything in our power to quickly create the vaccine and make it widely available," the head of AstraZeneca Pascal Sorio said in a statement.
