The employees of the ANAS Institute of Dendrology visited an expedition to the natural zone of the mountain Shirvan at the expense of their internal resources.

During the expedition, a comprehensive monitoring of the natural and cultural dendroflora in these territories was carried out, the state of the biological diversity of beech-hornbeam and elm forests found in moderately moist mountain-forest landscapes of Azerbaijan was studied. The flora of these forests and their pests has also been studied.

During the study, 18 families and 25 species belonging to the flowering plants section, 1 family and 1 species belonging to the horsetail section, 1 family and 5 species belonging to the fern section were identified.

Three pests were identified in the study area. Of these, the Viscum album pest has spread to apple, pear, oak and walnut trees. Panorpa communis was found on blackberries and lathiferous trees and shrubs, and Neuroptera and Hemiptera; Apidoidea have been discovered on raspberries.

Seeds and herbarium materials collected from the territory of the natural zone of Mountain Shirvan during the expedition were transferred to the Herbarium Fund and the Institute’s seed laboratory.
