A new study was conducted by neurophysiologists and molecular biologists under the supervision of University of California Professor Alison Muotri. Experts have found that a drug for the treatment of hepatitis C called sofosbuvir protected brain cells from coronavirus.
Researchers grew tiny “dummies” of the brain from stem cells, and after the use of sofosbuvir the proportion of infected cells decreased. Disruptions to the nerve endings caused by SARS-CoV-2 were also eliminated.
