Russian scientists are creating a vaccine against coronavirus infection in the form of yogurt. This was reported by m24.ru with reference to the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Chekhonin.

According to him, specialists using genetic engineering methods embedded S-protein (a key molecule) into the villi on the surface of probiotic microbes, due to which the coronavirus penetrates into the cells.

"A bacterium is formed with an immunogenic protein of the virus on the surface <...> This vaccine can be administered as a dairy product," Chekhonin said.

The vaccine is being developed at the Institute of Experimental Medicine in St. Petersburg. Preclinical trials are currently underway.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation selected volunteers for testing the vaccine against coronavirus from among the military. Candidates have passed preliminary testing. Within a month they did not reveal any diseases.
