The last 40 years are considered the hottest period in Azerbaijan.
This was announced by the director of the Institute of Geography of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mammadov.
According to him, during the entire observation period, the temperature was the highest in the Kura-Araz plain (0.4-0.9 ° C), in the Gazakh-Ganja zone (0.6-1.1 ° C), the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus (0.5-0.8 ° C), on the northeast (0.6-1.5 ° C) and the northern (0.4-0.6 ° C) slopes of the Lesser Caucasus.
R. Mammadov said that the maximum temperature in Azerbaijan is observed in Julfa (+46 C), the minimum temperature in the mountains (-40 degrees C).
The academician said that in the coldest months of the year, with the exception of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, temperatures in other areas rise. At the same time, the area of plots with temperatures below 0 degrees decreased.
R. Mammadov noted: “According to climatologists, if states do not take measures, by 2100 the temperature of the planet may rise to 3.7-4.8 degrees Celsius. When the air is heated to 2 degrees, irreversible processes for the environment begin. The risk group includes Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and other countries of the Middle East. If greenhouse gas emissions continue, the temperature in the Persian Gulf could reach 74-76 degrees celsius.” According to some results, the concept of spring and autumn will gradually lose their esence, academician added.
