Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Geography named after acad. H.Aliyev of ANAS, PhD associate professor Maharram Hasanov was a guest of the "Telesahar" program broadcast on Azerbaijan television.

The geographer clarified the issues of lowering the water level in the Kura River in the program. He said that 70% of Azerbaijan's water resources are formed in neighboring countries and depend on the level of water entering the country. The volume of Kura water entering Azerbaijan has decreased by 25 percent over the past six years since 2014.

A few days ago, while studying the river in the Kura area with academician Ramiz Mammadov, he observed that the Caspian Sea was mixed with the Kura in an area of 60 km in Neftchala and Salyan regions, the expert said.

The scientist stressed the importance of clearing the Kura delta from hanging materials and clay at the confluence with the Caspian Sea in order to rectify the situation. He noted that otherwise, if the water level in the Kura rises, it could lead to floods.
