Institute of Geography named after acad. H. Aliyev of ANAS continues research on the situation in the Kura River.

The next broadcast of the program "Ecoetics" dedicated to the results of research conducted by Mirnuh Ismayilov, head of the Department of Landscape Studies and Landscape Planning, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor, on the lack of fresh water in the Kura and Araz rivers.

The geographer, who has repeatedly conducted research in the areas where the Kura River flows, has recently witnessed a drop in water levels in the Kura, as well as in many rivers in Azerbaijan, and in some places the situation has become critical.

Calling rivers the blood vessels of nature, the scientist said that they play the role of a corridor between ecosystems, enrich nature and are the main provider of human demand for fresh water.

The scientist said that the accession of neighboring Georgia and Armenia, where the Kura and Araz rivers cross, to the Helsinki Convention on the Protection and Use of Cross-Border Watercourses and International Lakes could play a positive role in preventing such problems in the future.
