Ofek-16, a new generation reconnaissance satellite, was successfully launched into space and launched into orbit from the Palmahim base in central Israel on Monday morning, the press service of the country's defense ministry said.
"Today at 4.00, the Israeli Defense Ministry and the Israeli IAI concern successfully launched the Ofek-16 reconnaissance satellite into space. The launch was made from a cosmodrome in central Israel using the Shavit launcher," the ministry’s press service said in a statement.
The launch of the satellite at the Palmahim base in the center of the country was monitored by military experts and scientists. At the time of launch and preparation for it, all flights over the central regions of Israel were transferred to the northern routes.
