SARS-CoV2 virus detected in sewage in Turkey

For the first time in the world, studies have been conducted in Turkey to detect the SARS-CoV2 virus in water and wastewater. The virus was detected in wastewater in Istanbul, selected as a pilot city for research, as well as in the 81st province of the country.

According to cnnturk.com, Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli said the studies were conducted to prepare an early warning system for possible risks.

It became known that most of all the SARS-CoV2 virus is found in mud puddles. Samples were collected from 250 water purification devices operating in the 81st province. And the cities in which the SARS-CoV2 virus is most common are Konya and Istanbul. The first samples in Istanbul were taken back in April of this year. Experts have found that compared to April in June, the virus in wastewater has increased.
