Researchers have made a breakthrough in finding drugs against COVID-19

Analysis of nearly 300 human antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 prompted scientists to a gene often used by antibodies that effectively attack the virus. This discovery, experts say, could help create a vaccine, Xinhua reports.

It is known about coronavirus that it attaches to human cells due to its spike-like protein (there is a point of contact). The "gateway" in the cell itself of the human body for the virus is the ACE2 receptor.

Antibodies aimed at the site of attachment of the virus to cells and blocking ACE2 are considered particularly effective in combating the virus. To date, scientists have found several such antibodies. For example, the Scripps Research Institute compiled a list of 294 such antibodies.

Further analysis made it possible to isolate the IGHV3-53 gene, which is most often used to affect the attachment point of the spike virus protein. IGHV3-53 antibodies have low mutagenicity and the ability to inhibit the work of the virus.
