Oxford coronavirus vaccine passes first successful tests

A team of researchers from the University of Oxford received the first positive results of testing a coronavirus vaccine, developed by them with the assistance of the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. This was announced on Wednesday by the British television channel ITV.

According to him, the specialists managed to ensure that the vaccine enhances immunity, and detailed data on this subject will be published in the British medical journal The Lancet. “The reaction of the immune system in this case is associated with both antibodies and T cells (lymphocytes),” an informed source said. “All attention is now focused on antibodies, but there is more and more evidence that the response of T cells is important for protection against coronavirus,” he added.

At the same time, the effectiveness of the vaccine can only be properly established as a result of the third, final stage of testing, which is now underway in Brazil, ITV emphasizes. Earlier in the United Kingdom, the second phase of clinical trials of this vaccine was launched with the participation of more than 10 thousand volunteers aged 56 - 69 years old, citizens over 70 years old and children 5-12 years old. At the beginning, at the first stage, the study covered just over a thousand volunteers aged 18 to 55 years.
