Chinese scientists are using artificial intelligence to predict the development of critical conditions in patients with COVID-19, reports

Xinhua. The assessment method was tested by employees of the Guangzhou Respiratory Health Institute and Tencent AI laboratory.

Based on data from 1,590 patients from 575 medical centers, the researchers developed a self-learning survival model that predicts the risk of critical conditions in COVID-19 patients over 5, 10 and 30 days based on their clinical scores upon admission.

Researchers screened 74 clinical indicators and identified 10 key risk factors that could be combined to predict the development of critical conditions. Among them are abnormalities in X-rays, age, the presence of shortness of breath and a number of concomitant diseases.
