“Red List of endemic species in the Caucasus region” monograph of the Institute of Botany of ANAS has been published in the United States. The book compiles conservation status assessments of 1752 species of Caucasian. It also includes high-quality photos of plants, as well as geographical maps.
The valuable work of 451-page has been developed by the 6 Caucasian countries’ plant biologists. The authors of Azerbaijan’s part of flora, national coordinator of the project is corresponding member of ANAS, professor Valide Alizadeh and employees of the Institute.
5 participants from the institute have been elected as expert for International Union for Conservation of Nature. 200 national and 950 Caucasian endemic included to the information base.
The book contains information related to the steady decline of plant diversity in the world. It also contains information about 291 endangered species, 169 species in critical condition, 5 extinct plants, 272 sensitive plants, 255 least concern plants and etc.
It should be noted that the IUCN Red Data Book (Lucas, 1978), included only one Caucasian plant (Iris winogradowii Fomin).
