British scientists have discovered that the active ingredient in insect repellent is capable of killing COVID-19. Researchers at the UK's Defense Technology Science Laboratory have determined that citriodiol may help fight the coronavirus.
Insect repellents containing citriodiol aren't enough to protect people from the virus, according to the report, but they can be used as an added layer of protection along with face masks, hand washing and other health advice. Citriodiol is known to be derived from the leaves and twigs of lemon eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora). It is recognized as safe for humans.
