Siyavush Garayev was born in Garaghajili village, Samukh on April 30, 1942. After finishing secondary school N 24 in Ganja, he studied Azerbaijan State University department of chemistry (1959-1964).

Began for labor activity since 1964 at Scientific-Research Institute of Olefins, USSR Ministry of Petrochemical Industry, Siyavush Garayev worked junior researcher at Sumgayit branch of Azerbaijan NAS Institute of Petrochemical Processes in 1966-67. Studied post graduate of Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry in 1967-70, worked in the posts of junior researcher, head researcher, chief department and senior lecturer in the same institute in 1970-82. Siyavush Garayev headed for Oil Academy since 1982, became dean of department of chemistry in 1988-1997. He worked the rector of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy since 1997.

In 1970, Siyavush Garayev defended his PhD, in 1984 - his doctoral dissertation at the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology named after M.V. Lomonosov. In 2001 he was elected a corresponding member, and in 2007 - active member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He was also an honorary doctor, professor and member of a number of foreign universities and academies.

Academician Siyavush Garayev was known for fundamental research in organic chemistry. As a result of obtained researches of scientist in the field of fine chemicals, new material used in the oil industry, the development and preparation methods of obtaining drugs in medicine and the creation of stimulant plants in agriculture. The name of the scientist is directly related to the identification of several patterns of modern trends in organic chemistry.

Devoted his life to training of highly qualified specialists in the field of petrochemicals, Siyavush Garayev - author of about 500 scientific papers, including 5 monographs, 10 textbooks and manuals. For scientific achievements he was awarded more than 60 patents and 27 patents. The scientist's work, published in our country and abroad, as well as presentations at scientific symposia and conferences have been highly appreciated by specialists.

Siyavush Garayev paid special attention to the formation of scientific staff. He supervised to dozens of young scientists to defend their theses for the degree.

Scientific and pedagogical activity of Siyavush Garayev was appreciated by the state. He was awarded one of the highest awards of independent Azerbaijan Republic - the Order “Shohrat”.

Memory of the famous chemist and educator, sincere man Siyavush Farhad oglu Garayev will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
