Scientists have developed a device that reduces the risk of death from heart attack

Heart attack is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, killing 7-9 million people a year. With standard medical intervention, only 1 in 10 people is able to recover from a heart attack.

A new device called Neurescue, developed in Copenhagen, Denmark, aims to increase the survival rate to 9 out of 10 people.

The device, which is being investigated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is designed to increase blood flow to the brain and heart in life-threatening situations.

The device can double the time it takes for a doctor to monitor blood loss, creating the opportunity for additional life-saving procedures such as a stent or pacemaker.

Neurescue is placed in the femoral artery in the legs, blocking blood flow to the lower body for a minute and directing it to vital organs.

Project leader Habib Frost said they intend to spend time with Neurescue, thereby bringing patients to heart-support equipment, as well as stents and pacemakers.
