Antarctica ozone hole closed

The record-breaking ozone hole over Antarctica was closed in December 2020 as a result of natural processes.

This information was spread by the World Meteorological Organization. The ozone hole, which began to grow in mid-August, reached a record high on September 20, covering much of Antarctica.

Experts say the hole was closed due to meteorological conditions:

"This is the most durable and one of the largest and deepest holes recorded since the beginning of ozone layer monitoring 40 years ago. It was triggered by very low temperatures in the stratosphere and a stable, strong, cold polar wind".
