Surgeons at the Isak Rabin Medical Center in Israel and CorNeat specialists have restored the vision of a 78-year-old patient diagnosed with blindness.
The operation was performed using a synthetic "Cornea KPro" implant that does not require donor tissue.
The patient underwent surgery the next day and soon underwent basic ophthalmological tests.
Scientists note that this operation marked the beginning of a new stage in the history of ophthalmology. So far, donor tissue has been needed for similar operations. Successful application of artificial cornea eliminates this need.
