A study by scientists at Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the impact of cryptocurrency mining on carbon emissions found that by 2024, bitcoin mining in China will generate 130 million tons of carbon emissions per year.

Scientists have used simulation modeling to study the flow of waste during bitcoin mining in China. The authors found that the annual energy consumption of miners in China in 2024 will be 296.59 TVt / h, and the volume of carbon emissions will be 130.5 million meters.

According to scientists, as of April 2020, China accounted for 78.89% of global blockchain operations.
