4th International “Mugham world” Festival symposium kicked off at Azerbaijan Composers’ Union, March 12.

Traditionally symposium is held by joint organization of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, AR Ministries of Culture and Tourism, Education, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Azerbaijan Composers’ Union (ACU) and Azerbaijan Culture Foundation.

Event with participation of governmental officials, cultural and art figures was opened by chairman of ACU, People’s Artist prof. Firangiz Alizadeh who highlighted the significance of the mugham festival held every two years in the country.

Shifting into fiesta of culture, art especially mugham, International “Mugham world” Festival contributes to bring together representatives of different nations and make nations to get rather closer. Mugham festival is one of the great merits implemented by Heydar Aliyev Foundation due to protect mugham and deliver to further generations. This festival proves that mugham crown belongs to Azerbaijan, she stated.

Being vigor of national spiritual world and one of the key expressive ways, Mugham is the moral bridge between past and future as well as Azerbaijan and world nations’ cultures, noted minister of AR Ministry of Culture and Tourism Abulfes Garayev.

First lady of Azerbaijan, president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban khanum Aliyeva had exceptional merits in promoting mugham as intercultural dialogue music and protecting it as moral legacy of Azerbaijan people. As a result of her performance “Mugam world” festival is held for the fourth time in our country: “This event could form a network of mugam singers in the world, mugham lovers and especially scientists and experts who has dedicated his life to”, A. Garayev said.

As a symbol of love and beauty mugham occupies a special place in the hearts of every man. Several fulfillments have been done in the sphere of promotion and investigation of mugham in the country in latest years, noted president of ANAS, acad. Akif Alizadeh.

Making speech on mugham nuances and held researches A. Alizadeh stressed out that, within the project by Heydar Aliyev Fund and Heydar Aliyev Center ANAS Institute of Manuscripts has released “Manuscript bulk about Mugham” composed of 3 books entitled “Behjatur-ruh”, “Treatises about music”, and “Poems written to mugham”.

“Mugham encyclopedia” published by the Heydar Aliyev Fund in 2008 aroused great interest so far. “Encyclopedia of Azerbaijan mugham” in Russian is beneficial for Russian-speaking readers due to obtain rich data about mugham. Editorial-board chairman of the encyclopedia is First lady of Azerbaijan, president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban khanum Aliyeva.

After 3rd International Mugham Festival held in 2013, ANAS Institute of Architecture and Art has created Mugham study department due to learning mugham phenomenon, elucidating its essence and creating direction of mugham study.

Attending the event general secretary of UNESCO “International Council for Traditional Music”, prof. Dr. Svanibor Pettan, Head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy affairs of the Presidential Administration Fatma Abdullazadeh, director of ANAS Institute of History, corresponding member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov and others highly estimated symposium in terms of protecting and improving mugham among cultures of Muslim countries and wished successes to its work.

Summarizing the opening ceremony of the symposium, acad. Akif Alizadeh noted that, this huge cultural phenomenon which spread the whole world is our proud source.

Then, symposium continued its work over sections.

Symposium will be completed on March 14.
