Celebrate scientist with “Shohrat” order, chief department at Institute of Petrochemical Processes, academician Musa Rustamov is 85th anniversary and 60th anniversary of scientific performance, on May 8.

Academic Musa Rustamov was born in Ordubad, Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic on May 8, 1930. Graduated from Azerbaijan Industrial Institute department of Chemical Technology in 1952 and started his scientific career as an engineer at the Scientific-Research Institute of Oil Refining. During 1959-1988, worked as a junior and senior researcher, lab head and deputy director for scientific affairs at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after acad. Y.Mammadaliev, Azerbaijan AS. Worked director of the same institute from 1988 to 2011. Currently, employs chief of chemistry and technology of oil and gas department there.

Defended PhD thesis in 1961, doctoral thesis in 1968, was awarded the title of professor in 1971. Elected corresponding member of Azerbaijan AS in 1980, active member in 1989.

Academician Musa Rustamov is a celebrate scholar in the sphere of extracting heterogeneous catalytic processes for deepening the oil refining.  He supervised for a new generation of catalytic cracking process (Q-43-107 system) creation. This highly efficient system has been applied in a variety of plants in the former Soviet Union and "Azerneftyanajag" PU (currently Heydar Aliyev ORP).

First research work in the field of hydrogen power engineering was carried out by guidance of academician Musa Rustamov in the country, Concept for further usage of energy conveyers and complex development schemes of oil refining and petrochemical industry in Azerbaijan have been developed. Results of researches conducted by the versatile scientist were reflected in more than 660 scientific works, including 4 books.

He supervised 15 Doctors of sciences and 49 PhDs.

Had been the member of World Hydrogen Energy Association and a member of the commission for Hydrogen power engineering under Presidium of the Azerbaijan AS in 1976-1982.

Academician Musa Rustamov is the member of Specialized Council for doctoral and PhD thesis defense of “Oil chemistry” and “Chemistry and technology of fuel” attached to ANAS Institute of Petrochemical Processes.  

M. Rustamov was deserved to "Honored Scientist of the USSR” in 1979, and "State Prize Laureate of the USSR" titles in 1982 for his achieved successes and merits in staff training. In 2004, was awarded the “Shohrat” order of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
