Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The presentation ceremony of the fundamental collective monograph titled “Heydar Aliyev: The Scale and Mission of the Personality,” was held at the Presidium building of the Academy. The author of the idea of the publication is Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

The event was attended by the President of ANAS Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium of ANAS, advisors of the Academy, staff members of the Presidium administration of ANAS, and the authors of the monograph.

In his speech at the presentation ceremony, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the multifaceted life and works of Heydar Aliyev, the outstanding statesman, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, and one of the brightest representatives of world politics, have always been a focus of scientists. He noted that it is impossible to objectively and comprehensively speak about the historical and political processes that took place in Azerbaijan and the USSR after the second half of the 20th century without considering the factor of Heydar Aliyev.

Stating that the life, struggle, and ideals of the Great Leader hold a significant place not only in the history of the Azerbaijani people and country, but also in the political and historical course of the world, Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that since the Soviet era, works and poems dedicated to the National Leader had been written. Following the prominent statesman’s interview titled “Let Justice Prevail,” published in “Literaturnaya Gazeta”, scientific and ideological articles began to be published as well. Over the years, not only in Azerbaijan but also in many countries around the world, especially Türkiye and the CIS countries, countless books and monographs dedicated to the National Leader have been published.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that declaring 2023 as the “Year of Heydar Aliyev” by the Head of the state has led to the creation of more works in this regard, and added that these publications particularly encompass fundamental research. He pointed out that although publications reflecting the life and activities of the Great Leader, as well as his historical contributions to the creation and development of various fields have been released over the past years, these works were mostly informational books and conference materials. However, since 2023, fundamental research reflecting the multi-year activities and life path of the Great Leader has been conducted at ANAS, and during the “Year of Heydar Aliyev,” 52 monumental scholarly works have been produced by our scientists, each of which makes a significant contribution to Azerbaijani science and Heydar Aliyev Studies.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli also mentioned that there have been a very limited number of generalizing books dedicated to the Great Leader to date. He noted that the work presented was created based on the objectives set in this regard. He stated that the fundamental collective monograph titled “Heydar Aliyev: The Scale and Mission of the Personality” reflects all stages of the biography, multifaceted political-statehood activities, and struggles of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. He said that the authors of the monograph are 24 prominent Azerbaijani scientists from various scientific-research institutes of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, who have professionally engaged in the study of the life and activities of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev for many years. He pointed out that, with its volume, literature, and authorship, this publication is the most advanced version and guide of the fundamental research dedicated to the Great Leader to date.

The head of ANAS said that the study of the historical services of the National Leader to the Azerbaijani people and state has always been the primary duty and honorable mission of our scholars. He also expressed his gratitude to the authors of the fundamental collective monograph “Heydar Aliyev: The Scale and Mission of the Personality.”

Then, the scientific editor of the publication, Academic Secretary of ANAS, Academician Arif Hashimov, delivered a speech, noting that the release of the monograph and its presentation on the eve of the Academy’s 80th anniversary is a significant event.

Academician Arif Hashimov stated that the first fundamental monographic research dedicated to the main directions of the multifaceted activities of the Great Leader, published by the Academy, is the result of the hard work of our scholars.

During the presentation ceremony, the authors of the monograph, including Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, Academician Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, Corresponding Member of ANAS Ertegin Salamzade, Professor Ilham Mammadzade, PhD in History Jabi Bahramov, and PhD in Political Science Sanan Hasanov, delivered speeches, emphasizing that the study of the life and activities of the Great Leader is a primary task of our scholars.

At the end of the event, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the presented fundamental monograph is a perfect example of studying Heydar Aliyev and serves as a scientific portrait. He emphasized that the life and activities of the Great Leader are constantly studied by scholars and conveyed to future generations. The head of ANAS noted that focusing on great personalities is an important part of the main research conducted at the Academy. He mentioned that during the Soviet era, the investigation of such issues was prohibited, efforts were made to forget prominent figures, and as a result, there were no scientific works about notable personalities of Azerbaijan. He also added that work in this direction will continue and conveyed his recommendations and instructions.
