Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and Head of the Baku Media Center Arzu Aliyeva participated in the ceremony
The official opening ceremony of ICESCO Regional Office in Azerbaijan was held on April 29 in Baku in the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher”.
The ceremony was attended by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, and Head of the Baku Media Center, Arzu Aliyeva.
The event was also attended by Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Anar Alakbarov, Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, Director General of ICESCO Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Isa Habibbeyli, the Ambassadors of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan to Azerbaijan, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova, as well as Ambassadors of other countries accredited to Azerbaijan as well as public and political figures of Azerbaijan.
Director of ICESCO’s Regional Office in Baku, Abdulhakeem AlSenan expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in this historically significant event.
Following this, Director General of ICESCO Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik delivered a speech, stating: “Today, we have gathered here to celebrate the opening of ICESCO’s new regional office, realizing our long-standing dream. It is a wish to build connections, foster cooperation, and shape a future founded on wisdom, knowledge, and common goals. Right here, in the heart of Baku, a cradle of peace and a place where the civilizations have met for centuries, we are inaugurating a regional office that will serve as a center for education, science, culture, communication, modernity, and tradition in harmony.”
Highlighting that this regional office will serve Azerbaijan and the ICESCO member states of Central Asia, while also contributing to other countries in the region and promoting a spirit of cooperation and excellence, Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik said:
“Dear friends, this achievement did not come by chance. It is the result of true leadership, a clear vision, and unwavering commitment to a better future. We express our sincere gratitude to His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev, a leader whose brilliant wisdom and deep belief in the power of knowledge shine as a beacon for all of us. His consistent support has made this vision a reality. We also extend our gratitude to Her Excellency First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, ICESCO’s Goodwill Ambassador, whose love for education, culture, and humanity made this project possible.
Today, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Her Excellencies Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva for joining the event as distinguished guests, for their warm welcome, and for being true champions of the cooperation between ICESCO and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.”
Emphasizing that this office will be a special one, Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik stated: “This office will embrace unique ideas. It will achieve its goals through new approaches. It will be a living heart, beating with a strong cooperation spirit with our member states and reflecting the rhythms of new partnerships in the fields of education, culture, science, and communication.
In addition to advancing ICESCO’s strategic goals and objectives, the Baku office will also serve purposes such as wisely and urgently protecting our environment, further developing artificial intelligence to serve humanity, focusing on our youth-the architects of tomorrow, and preserving the spirit of our valuable heritage and identity. This office will be a place where inspiring projects and innovative ideas are born. It will foster connections that strengthen ties between countries and generations.
The event continued with a video presentation highlighting the history of ICESCO and its bilateral relations with Azerbaijan.
At the end, Leyla Aliyeva wrote heartfelt words in the office’s guestbook.
