On May 8, a scientific conference dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, titled “Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences: From Heydar Aliyev to Ilham Aliyev,” was held at the Presidium building of ANAS.
The event was attended by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium of ANAS, advisors of ANAS, heads of departments of the Presidium administration, directors of scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, young scientists and representatives, and relevant individuals.
In his opening speech at the conference, Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev is celebrated extensively across our country. The events also organized by the National Academy of Sciences play a key role in presenting facts about the life and significant contributions of the distinguished statesman to the public and younger generations. Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that throughout his life, National Leader Heydar Aliyev played an important role in the destiny of the Azerbaijani people. During the Soviet era, prominent statesman Heydar Aliyev prepared our people for national awakening, developed the ideology of Azerbaijanism, and paid special attention to the training of professional national personnel. He emphasized that thanks to the initiative and determination of the National Leader, our native language gained the status of a state language, was officially recognized in the Constitution of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1978. He also mentioned that at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Jamshid Nakhchivanski Military Lyceum was established in 1971 to train national officer personnel, thereby ensuring the formation of a professional staff of the Azerbaijani army, which took part in the First and Second Karabakh Wars. The Academician also highlighted that the Great Leader also made significant contributions to the development of fields as science, education, literature, culture, and arts and the intellectuals nurtured during that period later played an important role in the destiny of the Azerbaijani people and in the national awakening.
The head of ANAS underlined that in the 1990s, our people saw the return of the National Leader to power as the way out of the tragedies they had endured. Soon after his return, chaos in the country was brought to an end, stability was ensured, efforts were directed toward building a modern army, the “Contract of the Century” was signed, the first Constitution of Azerbaijan was adopted, and international relations were established and expanded, in short, the construction of a new Azerbaijan began.
He noted that the work of the National Leader was further enriched by President Ilham Aliyev in light of the challenges of the modern era, turning Azerbaijan into one of the leading countries not only in the region but also in the world. The territorial integrity and state sovereignty of the republic have been completely restored, and today, we proudly live as a victorious nation.
“Today, Azerbaijan is known worldwide as a country that calls for peace. President Ilham Aliyev is regarded as a powerful leader not only in Azerbaijan and the region but also across the world,”-said Academician Isa Habibbeyli.
He underlined that both National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev played a significant role in the history and destiny of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The Academy, with honorable path over its 80-year history, celebrated its first state-level anniversary in 1975 at the initiative of the National Leader, during which ANAS was awarded the Order of “Friendship of Peoples”. He noted that in the early 1990s, National Leader Heydar Aliyev put an end to all questions regarding the future of the Academy of Sciences and regularly met with intellectuals, giving them his instructions and recommendations. Academician Isa Habibbeyli highlighted that the architect of ANAS’s recent achievements is President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The Head of the State signed the decrees to mark the Academy’s 60th, 70th, and, 80th anniversaries and in accordance with the Presidential decree, dated March 18 of this year, the 80th anniversary of ANAS will be celebrated at a high level both in Azerbaijan and jointly with the academies of sciences of friendly and brotherly countries. He added that today, ANAS is taking significant steps to promote Azerbaijani science globally, expand its international relations, and strengthen its rights and authority among the world’s influential scientific institutions, making use of the vast opportunities provided by the Head of the State.
“The Azerbaijani people are forever grateful to National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev for building an independent and strong state. Without National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev, there would be no developing Azerbaijan as we see today. There would be no Karabakh Victory, no “Great Return” movement, and no Academy of Sciences. We are eternally thankful to our distinguished statesmen for their special care toward Azerbaijani science,”-said Academician Isa Habibbeyli and officially opened the conference.
At the conference, presentations were delivered by Academician Arif Hashimov, academic secretary of ANAS, Tamilli Karimova-Kosayeva, PhD in History, Associate Professor, and leading researcher at the Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS and Sarkhan Khaveri, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor, and Head of the Science and Education Department of the Presidium of ANAS.
Vice Presidents of ANAS, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev and Academician Irada Huseynova as well as ANAS Advisor Academician Adil Garibov delivered speeches, highlighting the historic contributions of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev to the Azerbaijani state and nation, as well as their care for Azerbaijani science and scientists.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that Azerbaijani scientists are united around President Ilham Aliyev, the successor of the National Leader, and fully support the President’s domestic and foreign policy. He underlined that Azerbaijani scientists would continue to contribute to the development of the country through their research and officially concluded the conference.
