Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On May 16, a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held.

The meeting was attended by the President of ANAS and Director of the Institute of Literature, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Scientific Council, staff of the institute, and relevant participants.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli opened the meeting and presented the items on the agenda.

First, Doctor of Philology, Professor Nizami Mammadov, on the occasion of his 75th anniversary, and Doctor of Philology Ataemi Mirzayev, on his 60th anniversary, were awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Institute. Academician Isa Habibbeyli highly praised the scientific contributions of the scientists and congratulated them on behalf of the institute and the scientific community.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli presented the newly published book titled “Mahammad Fuzuli: Life and Works”, which was prepared under the supervision of Doctor of Philological Sciences Ataemi Mirzayev at the Fuzuli Studies Sector of the Institute of Literature. He noted that the publication, which is a valuable scientific contribution to study of Mahammad Fuzuli’s heritage, serves as the author’s scientific and creative passport.

The next issue discussed at the meeting was the Decree by President Ilham Aliyev dated April 4, 2025, on the celebration of the 190th anniversary of Seyid Azim Shirvani, and the tasks ahead in this regard. Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the importance of thoroughly studying the works of the prominent poet and gave relevant instructions on preparing an action plan for this purpose. The organization of a scientific conference dedicated to the anniversary of Seyid Azim Shirvani and holding of the event both in Baku and in the poet’s hometown, Shamakhi, was also discussed at the meeting.  

Then, the issue related to the Presidential Decree dated May 8, 2025, on celebrating the 90th anniversary of People’s Poet Fikrat Goja was reviewed, and a number of initiatives were discussed. It was proposed to organize an event dedicated to the poet’s anniversary at the Institute of Literature and to hold a scientific conference in his birthplace, Aghdash city.

Instructions were given regarding the publication of books dedicated to the life and work of both poets, the publication of scientific research in the press in this field, and the preparation of scholarly articles.

The Decree by President Ilham Aliyev on the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press was also touched upon at the meeting. Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the invaluable role of the national press in the country’s socio-political and cultural life, as well as its importance in the development of enlightenment. He recommended organizing a special event at the Institute of Literature within the framework of the anniversary and continuing the transliteration of journals from the last century by the relevant departments of the institute.

Information was also provided about the preparations for the “Literary Process-2024” creative conference. Head of the Department of Literary Criticism, Doctor of Philological Sciences Vagif Yusifli delivered a speech and presented the list of authors for the program of the conference, which is planned to be held in June of this year.

At the same time, reports about the foreign work trips of the staff members of the Institute of Literature were listened to.

Following that, the institute’s scientific secretary, PhD in Philology Aygun Baghirli, spoke about the current issues. Matters concerning the appointment of scientific supervisors for a group of doctoral and PhD researchers of the institute, as well as the recommendation for the publication of books, monographs, and conference materials authored by the institution’s staff, were reviewed and appropriate opinions were issued.
