Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On May 22, the closing ceremony of the inter-institutional mini football tournament dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held at ANAS. The mini football tournament was realized with the support of the Presidium of ANAS and the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, and with the organization of the Free Trade Union of ANAS, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ANAS, and the Trade Union Committee of Scientific Organizations of the Azerbaijan Education Workers Free Trade Union.

This year, the mini-football tournament was organized in a new format for the first time, with separate championships held for the scientific institutions under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Education. In the end, the winning teams of each championship competed for the Super Cup.

The champion of the tournament among the teams of scientific institutions of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was the team of the Republican Seismic Survey Center under ANAS, which defeated the joint team of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, the A.A. Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, and the Institute of Law and Human Rights.  

In the match for third place, the joint team of the Presidium administration of ANAS and “Elm” Publishing House defeated the combined team of the Institutes of Architecture and Art, and Philosophy and Sociology, winning the bronze medal.

The champion of the tournament among the teams of scientific institutions under the Ministry of Science and Education was the team of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, which defeated the team of the Institute of Information Technology in the final, while the third place was taken by the team of the Institute of Economics.

In the match for the Super Cup, the Republican Seismic Survey Center represented the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, while the team from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics represented the scientific institutions under the Ministry of Science and Education. The regular time of the match ended in a 3-3 draw, and in the penalty shootout, the team of the Republican Seismic Survey Center under ANAS won 6-3, becoming the Super Cup champion.

Following the matches held at the stadium located in the Academic Town, an award ceremony of the tournament took place. The ceremony was attended by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium of ANAS, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, Hikmat Osmanov, Chairman of the YAP Yasamal District Organization, Bakhtiyar Nabiyev, Head of the Youth and Sports Sector of the Yasamal District at the Baku City Youth and Sports Department, Ilham Safarov, Chairman of the Free Trade Union, PhD in Political Sciences Senan Hasanov, Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of Scientific Organizations of Azerbaijan Education Workers Free Trade Union, Doctor of Law Habil Gurbanov, directors of ANAS scientific institutions and organizations, chairmen of trade unions and YAP territorial  organizations, young scientists, and supporters of the teams.

First, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played. Then, the dear memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and our martyrs was honored with a one-minute moment of silence.

In his speech at the event, President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that National Leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to the development of sports in our country, just as he did to all other fields. It was by his decree that the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established. As a result of the large-scale organizational works carried out by the Great Leader in this field, Azerbaijani athletes have worthily represented our country in republican and international competitions and achieved great victories.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized that the youth and sports policy of the National Leader is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. He noted that in recent years, Azerbaijan has successfully hosted world-class competitions, has become recognized as a country of sports, and our athletes have represented our people with dignity at World and European championships as well as the Olympic Games.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that, in line with our country’s policy, a traditional football championship is held at the Academy every year. He mentioned that this year’s tournament was held in a different format for the first time, and in the final, the winning teams from the scientific institutions of ANAS and the Ministry of Science and Education competed for the Super Cup. Academician Isa Habibbeyli thanked the organizers for the high-level organization of the championship, expressed his gratitude to the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan for their support, and emphasized that efforts aimed at organizing meaningful leisure activities for the youth will continue.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli mentioned that this year's football tournament was also dedicated to the 80th anniversary of ANAS. He recalled the Order signed by the Head of State regarding the celebration of the Academy's anniversary and expressed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for his attention and care towards Azerbaijani sports, youth, science, and the Academy. He also emphasized that our people highly values the socio-political and cultural contributions of the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.

At the end of his speech, the head of ANAS emphasized that such events play a significant role in educating the younger generation in the spirit of Heydar Aliyev’s ideas, Azerbaijanism, and patriotism, and that practical efforts in this direction will continue in the future.  

Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, Hikmat Osmanov, Chairman of the YAP Yasamal District Organization, Bakhtiyar Nabiyev, Head of the Youth and Sports Sector of the Yasamal District of the Baku City Youth and Sports Department, Ilham Safarov, Chairman of the Free Trade Union, PhD in Political Sciences Senan Hasanov and Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of Scientific Organizations of Azerbaijan Education Workers Free Trade Union, Doctor of Law Habil Gurbanov also made speeches at the event.  They spoke about the youth and sports policy carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, congratulated the teams on the conclusion of the tournament and their victories, and also expressed gratitude to the organizers of the championship.  

After the speeches, Academician Isa Habibbeyli presented the championship cup and medals to Azer Isgandarov, the captain of the football team of the Republican Seismic Survey Center. Certificates, medals, and prizes were also awarded to the winners of the second and third places, and commemorative photos were taken.

At the end, the participants of the mini football tournament’s closing ceremony visited the Rare Trees Park of ANAS.
