A scientific-practical conference on the topic “Green World, Artificial Intelligence, and Modern Realities” was held at ANAS

A scientific-practical conference on the topic “Green World, Artificial Intelligence, and Modern Realities” was held at the Central Scientific Library of ANAS, jointly organized by the Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Milli Majlis, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education.

The conference was attended by state and government representatives, members of the Milli Majlis, employees of scientific and educational institutions, media representatives, and other participants.

The event was opened with a welcome speech by Sadig Gurbanov, Chairman of the Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Milli Majlis. He emphasized the scientific significance of the conference, which was dedicated to important topic. He said that climate change, ecological crises, and the decrease of natural resources are among the most serious problems facing humanity. Air and environmental pollution, loss of biodiversity, water scarcity, and climate change, etc., are all factors that directly impact the balance of the planet.

Sadig Gurbanov stressed that National Leader Heydar Aliyev placed special importance on environmental protection and maintaining ecological balance. The Great Leader considered the protection of biodiversity as an important part of Azerbaijan’s environmental policy. Heydar Aliyev viewed any harm inflicted on nature not only as an ecological disaster but also as a sign of disrespect toward the national wealth.

Recalling the words “Global environmental problems pose serious threats to the existence and future of humanity,” which President Ilham Aliyev stated during the COP29 event, Sadig Gurbanov highlighted that the use of digital technologies in Azerbaijan is expanding to ensure environmental safety and the efficient use of natural resources. He noted that an important step in this direction is the declaration of Nakhchivan, Karabakh, and Eastern Zangezur as "green energy zones."

Then, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, delivered a speech, highlighting that the main goal of the conference is to talk about important topics such as protecting the environment, preventing climate change, being more prepared for natural disasters, and the role of artificial intelligence and digital technology in today’s world.

Saying that numerous events were held last year in the country within the framework of the “Green World Solidarity Year” and that the international COP29 conference took place at a high level in Azerbaijan, the head of ANAS emphasized that the COP29 event demonstrated to the entire world Azerbaijan’s leading position in solving global problems, and after the liberation of Karabakh, COP29 presented Azerbaijan in a new image.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that within the framework of COP29 and the “Green World Solidarity Year”, Azerbaijani science was enriched with new ideas, new directions, and new terminology. Terms and concepts such as  “green energy,” “green economy,” “green growth,” “green technologies,” etc., appeared in the scientific community.

In conclusion of his speech, Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed confidence that the ideas and proposals to be put forward during the event, as well as the issues to be discussed at the conference, will contribute to the process of developing a new draft law by the Milli Majlis in this field and wished success to the conference.

At the event, presentations related to the main topic were delivered by Vice-President of ANAS, Director General of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Academician Irada Huseynova, and Director General of the Institute of Control Systems, Academician Ali Abbasov.

The academic secretary of ANAS and Director General of the Institute of Physics, Academician Arif Hashimov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vugar Karimov, Member of Parliament Nigar Mammadova, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Professor Asaf Zamanov, and Director of Department at Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Professor Zahid Mammadov also delivered speeches at the event. They highlighted the importance of the conference, which was dedicated to discussing global challenges related to the protection of the “green” world and the application of high technologies. It was noted that the discussions are of particular importance in terms of developing scientific and innovative approaches.
