The 4th Scientific Conference on “Modern Trends in the Development of Library and Information Technologies” was held at the Central Scientific Library (CSL) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

The conference, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Central Scientific Library was attended by heads of libraries from ANAS research institutes and higher education institutions, chairmen of the territorial organizations of YAP in Yasamal district, public figures, and media representatives.

The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli opened the conference with an introductory speech, saying that the Central Scientific Library, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, functions as the country’s leading scientific library.

The academician emphasized that the main direction in the library’s current activities is the development and implementation of a modern service model for users within the framework of the “Electronic Library” concept. He noted that significant achievements have recently been made in this direction. It was highlighted that considerable progress has been achieved in the preparation of electronic copies of the publications available in the library's collection, direct access to global libraries is provided through the updated website.

The head of ANAS pointed out that the rapid technological changes taking place in the world are redefining the functions of libraries. In this regard, the conference titled "Modern Trends in the Development of Library and Information Technologies" is of great importance and relevance.

The Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that today the application of new technologies, digitalization, and the possibilities of artificial intelligence are widely discussed in all areas of society. In the modern era, a library is no longer merely a place where books are stored, but also a digital information platform, a center for scientific research, and a transmitter of innovative knowledge.

The head of the Academy also noted that a decision has been made by the Presidium of ANAS to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Central Scientific Library, and a series of events are planned to be held in this regard.

Emphasizing the broad cooperation based on mutual trust between the National Library, one of the country’s main libraries, and the Central Scientific Library of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli congratulated both institutions on the occasion of anniversary of Central Scientific Library and the founding day of the National Library, and described this significant event as a celebration of Azerbaijani science.

Chairman of the YAP Yasamal district organization, Bakhityar Nabiyev, congratulated the event participants on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of ANAS and the 100th anniversary of CSL, and spoke about the importance of these institutions in the field of scientific activity.

The director of the Azerbaijan National Library, Professor Karim Tahirov, emphasized the special services provided to society and the library’s activities in the field of information dissemination, highlighting the importance of the conference. He also underlined the unparalleled contributions of National Leader to the development of library work in the country and presented the publications of the library dedicated to the National Leader to the Central Scientific Library.

Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library highlighted the importance of the modern electronic library system, and spoke about their implementation and the ongoing online projects in the institution she leads.

The dean of the Faculty of Information and Document Management at Baku State University, PhD in Philology Elamdar Bayramov, CSL employee, PhD in Philology Shafag Aliyeva spoke about the history of the library’s establishment, its honorable development path over 100 years, its current activities, and its productive cooperation with international scientific organizations.

The director of the Central Scientific Library, Doctor of Technical Sciences Huseyn Huseynov noted that the new building of ANAS’s Central Scientific Library, which has a century-long history, was inaugurated in 2014 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev. He emphasized the special interest in the conference, which was held for the fourth time, and noted that nearly 150 theses were accepted. The director also spoke about important steps taken in the last year toward the library’s digitalization, as well as several projects planned for implementation.
