A scientific conference on the topic “Traditions of Karabakhname in the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Modern Period” was held at Karabakh University, jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Education and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Before the event, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, members of the Presidium, department heads of the Presidium administration, and heads of the Academy’s research institutions and organizations visited the Aghdam Mugham Center. Academician Isa Habibbeyli presented the Center with a miniature carpet woven in honor of the 80th anniversary of ANAS.
Afterward, members of the ANAS delegation visited the Imarat complex in Aghdam and viewed the Asgaran Fortress. During the trip, they also arrived at the Shusha Fortress, where a commemorative photo was taken.
The President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli and members of the Presidium, together with other government and state representatives, attended the international children’s creativity festival titled “Shusha is a Cultural Jewel of the Unity of Turkic peoples” organized in Shusha by the Ministry of Science and Education, and involving schoolchildren from Turkic states. Within the framework of the event, Academician Isa Habibbeyli met with Aydin Karimov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha, and presented him with encyclopedic publications of the Academy.
Rector of Karabakh University, Shahin Bayramov opened the scientific conference held at Karabakh University in honor of the 80th anniversary of ANAS with a welcoming speech. He greeted the guests and said that strengthening scientific potential, expanding international cooperation, and studying the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Karabakh are among the key priorities of the higher education institution he leads. For this purpose, the scientific collaboration established between Karabakh University and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences will create significant opportunities for future development.
The Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev began his speech by congratulating the staff, scientists, and scientific community of ANAS on its 80th anniversary. Touching upon the responsibilities ahead for Karabakh University, the minister emphasized that this institution of higher education will play a significant role not only in the region but also in the overall scientific and academic life of Azerbaijan. He added that Karabakh University is of strategic importance in terms of forming a scientific environment, applying innovative educational models, and systematically researching national and cultural heritage.
President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli delivered a report titled “Issues of Studying Karabakh and the Great Return Movement in the Activities of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences”. Emphasizing the great historical significance of the Order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on March 18, 2025, on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that this document was received with deep gratitude by the scientific community. He mentioned that this important state document is a reflection of the highest recognition given to Azerbaijani science, the Academy, the distinguished scientists who, over the past 80 years, have made valuable contributions to the development of the Azerbaijani state, the ideology of Azerbaijanism, the training of national personnel, and the establishment of scientific schools, and also expresses great respect for the current state and future development of the Academy. He underlined that holding such a high-level scientific event today on the liberated Karabakh territory, an ancient and strategically important region of Azerbaijan, is a historic event. He further emphasized that this conference not only commemorates the 80th anniversary of ANAS but also marks an important stage in the restoration of scientific life in the liberated territories.
Then, more than 1,200 books were donated to the library of Karabakh University by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, along with a painting dedicated to the founders and modern development of the Academy.
Scientific reports on the history, culture, and toponymic heritage of Karabakh were presented in the second part of the event by Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov, Doctor of Historical Sciences Karim Shukurov, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, PhD in History Farhad Guliyev, Director of the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics, Doctor of Philological Sciences Nadir Mammadli, and Director of the Institute of Folklore, PhD in Philology Hikmat Guliyev.
It should be noted that, as part of the conference, members of the ANAS leadership and staff delivered lectures on 13 different specialties in various classrooms at Karabakh University. These sessions included detailed discussions and responses to the numerous questions posed by students. The lectures were presented by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Vice-Presidents of ANAS-Academicians Dilgam Taghiyev, Irada Huseynova, and Rasim Aliguliyev, Academic-secretary Academician Arif Hashimov, Academician Teymur Karimli, Corresponding Member of ANAS Ertegin Salamzade, Doctor of Historical Sciences Karim Shukurov, Doctor of Philosophy Ilham Mammadzade, Doctor of Philological Sciences Nadir Mammadli, Doctor of Philological Sciences Sarkhan Khaveri, PhD in History Farhad Guliyev, and PhD in Biology Esmira Alirzayeva.
On behalf of the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli encyclopedic publications of ANAS and a miniature carpet woven in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Academy were presented as gifts to the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev, the Minister of Science and Education of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Elkhan Najafov, and the Rector of Karabakh University Shahin Bayramov. Issues of the journal “Elm və Həyat “(Science and Life) and the newspaper “Elm” (Science) were presented to the students of Karabakh University.
