Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On June 23, an event titled “Stages of Economic and Political Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Modern Period” was held at the Central Scientific Library of ANAS, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the prominent economist, Member of the Milli Majlis, and recipient of the “Shohrat” and “Sharaf” orders, Academician Ziyad Samadzade.

Before the event, attendees viewed an exhibition highlighting the life and work of Academician Ziyad Samadzade.

The event was attended by government officials, members of parliament, prominent intellectuals, representatives of scientific and educational institutions, media representatives, and other guests.

The ceremony was opened with a welcome speech by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who spoke about essential contributions of Academician Ziyad Samadzade to the development of economic science in Azerbaijan. He noted that through his fundamental research, the distinguished scientist made great contributions to the study and in-depth analysis of the problems of modern economic science, as well as the socio-economic development of the republic.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that encyclopedic information about Academician Ziyad Samadzade was also included in the new edition of the book “Azərbaycan Milli Elmlər Akademiyası simalarda” (“Great figures of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences”) published in accordance with the Order of President Ilham Aliyev on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Speaking about the life path and multifaceted scientific activity of the jubilarian, the head of ANAS mentioned that Academician Ziyad Samadzade successfully defended his candidate dissertation at the age of 25 and his doctoral dissertation at 31. He was elected a corresponding member of ANAS at 40 and a full member at 49.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that Academician Ziyad Samadzade dedicated most of his life to science, devoted special attention to the issue of economic independence of Azerbaijan. During the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in our country, the scientist was able to scientifically explain the issue of economic independence in accordance with the conditions of that time, the issue that was one of the main directions in the policy pursued by the Great Leader. Analyzing the processes taking place in the economy during the transition period and later during the period of modernization, renewal, and reforms carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Academician Ziyad Samadzade examined all issues from the perspective of economic independence and economic development.

The head of ANAS said that Academician Ziyad Samadzade enriched the field of economic science with a number of innovations. In his books, “The World Economy: China’s ‘Economic Miracle’” and “China in the Global World Economy,” he analyzes the reasons for the successful economic development of this country. These books serve as valuable sources for economic policy and systemic economic reforms. The academician added that the “Great Economic Encyclopedia” in seven volumes, for which Academician Ziyad Samadzade is the author of the idea and chief editor provides a clear understanding about model of economic development of Azerbaijan, the foundation of which was laid by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and which is implemented with flexible pragmatism by President Ilham Aliyev. 

Then, the Head of the Laboratory at the Institute of Control Systems of the Ministry of Science and Education, corresponding member of ANAS, Gorkhmaz Imanov, delivered a detailed report on the life and work of the scientist.

At the event, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis and Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, Academician Rafael Huseynov, Ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan, Dmitry Pinevich, Chair of the Milli Majlis Health Committee, Academician Ahliman Amiraslanov,  Chair of the Disciplinary Committee of the Milli Majlis, Professor Eldar Ibrahimov, Chair of the Committee on Family, Women and Children’s Affairs of the Milli Majlis, Doctor of Political Sciences Hijran Huseynova, Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Professor Adalat Muradov,  Chair of the Counting Commission of the Milli Majlis and Chairman of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan, Professor Eldar Guliyev, Chairman of the Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan, Professor Vahid Novruzov, Member of Parliament, Professor Fazail Ibrahimli, Doctor of Historical Sciences Hasan Hasanov, UNEC Professor Mahish Ahmadov, Professor of Azerbaijan Cooperation University Aynura Allahverdiyeva, and others delivered speeches at the event. They highlighted the role of Ziyad Samadzade in the field of economics and congratulating him on his anniversary. It was noted that Academician Ziyad Samadzade had played an active role in strengthening the economic legislative framework in the country, improving the budgetary system, developing economic innovations, and addressing other key issues.

In conclusion, Academician Ziyad Samadzade expressed his gratitude for the great attention and care, and thanked the organizers and participants of the event.
