ANAS President, Academician Isa Habibbayli, met with Professor Ekrem Gürell, Rector of Iğdır University and President of the Turkey-Azerbaijan Association (TAD).

During the meeting held at the ANAS Presidium, Academician Isa Habibbayli congratulated Professor Dr. Ekrem Gürell on his appointment as rector. He emphasized that the friendship and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, rooted in historical ties and, in the modern era, founded on the principles expressed by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev as “One nation, two states,” have reached their highest level in recent years, thanks to the close relations between President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey. Academician Habibbayli noted that today, the two fraternal countries maintain strong cooperation in all fields, support each other on every platform, including internationally, and demonstrate their solidarity and brotherhood to the world.

Academician Isa Habibbayli highlighted that ANAS has long maintained close cooperation with the academic and higher education institutions of the fraternal country and emphasized that it is ready to provide full support for joint collaboration with Iğdır University. The ANAS President pointed out the possibility and importance of establishing a Dede Korkut Center for Azerbaijani Studies at Iğdır University, creating a library reflecting Azerbaijani heritage, and having Academy staff conduct online lessons for the university’s students.

Speaking next, Professor Dr. Ekrem Gürel, Rector of Iğdır University, expressed his gratitude for the cordial reception and shared his proposals for joint cooperation. He noted that research conducted together with Azerbaijani scholars could yield significant results. He also emphasized that the city of Iğdır serves as a gateway to the Turkic world and that the university plans to provide broad opportunities for new students from fraternal countries, particularly Azerbaijan, seeking higher education there.

Professor Dr. Ekrem Gürel also expressed his support for the establishment of the Dede Korkut Center for Azerbaijani Studies at Iğdır University and for the creation of a library reflecting Azerbaijani heritage, both initiatives supported by ANAS.

Subsequently, an exchange of views took place on several matters, and an agreement on joint cooperation was reached.

The meeting was also attended by Esmira Alirzayeva, PhD in Biology and Associate Professor, Head of the Department for Foreign Relations and Cooperation with International Scientific Organizations of the ANAS Presidium, and Agahuseyn Shukurov, PhD in Philology and Head of the Public Relations, Press, and Information Department.
