Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

On November 4, within the framework of the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), a signing ceremony of memoranda of understanding between ANAS and a number of Academies of Sciences and academic institutions of different countries was held.

The ceremony, which took place at the Presidium of ANAS, was attended by ANAS President, Academician Isa Habibbayli, members of the Presidium, and delegations of leaders and representatives from several Academies of Sciences and reputable international scientific organizations visiting Azerbaijan on the occasion of the Academy’s 80th anniversary.

In his opening remarks, Academician Isa Habibbayli informed the guests about the history of the Presidium building of ANAS, noting its significance for the Turkic world and recalling that the First Turkological Congress was held in this very building in 1926.

Academician Habibbayli emphasized that in recent years, the international relations of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences have significantly expanded, and for the first time in its 80-year history, ANAS has become a member of prestigious international organizations. He provided information on joint projects and future research plans carried out with the Academies of Sciences of Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Bulgaria, and Montenegro, as well as with TURKSOY, Turkey’s Atatürk High Institution of Culture, Language and History, the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA), the Hebei Academy of Social Sciences of China, the Academy of Sciences of Korea, and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

An exchange of views followed, and publications resulting from joint projects were presented to the guests.

Subsequently, memoranda of understanding were signed between ANAS and the National Academy of Sciences of Italy, between ANAS and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and between ANAS and the World Azerbaijani Scientists Society (WASS).

The documents were signed on behalf of ANAS by Academician Isa Habibbayli; on behalf of Italy, by Professor Roberto Zelli, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Italy; on behalf of Kazakhstan, by Academician Askar Jumaldydayev, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of Kazakhstan; and on behalf of WASS, by Professor Masud Efendiyev, Chairman of the Board of the World Azerbaijani Scientists Society.

In his concluding remarks, Academician Isa Habibbayli noted that the signed documents will contribute to the expansion of cooperation, the implementation of new joint projects, and the strengthening of unity among the scientific communities.
