Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Academician Isa Habibbayli, met with Professor Muzaffer Şeker, President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), who is visiting Azerbaijan as part of the events marking the 80th anniversary of the Academy.

During the meeting held at the ANAS Presidium, Academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the close friendship and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, noting that, as in all other spheres, the academic institutions of the two brotherly countries are also cooperating actively in the field of science.

Highlighting that cooperation between ANAS and TÜBA has expanded significantly in recent years and that regular reciprocal visits have taken place, Academician Isa Habibbayli recalled that earlier this year, TÜBA organized a high-level celebration of ANAS’s 80th anniversary in Ankara. He expressed his deep gratitude to Professor Muzaffer Şeker for this initiative and for his participation in the jubilee session of ANAS.

Academician Habibbayli noted that both academies, as friendly institutions, are now facing important tasks in jointly organizing, together with other Academies and scientific organizations of the Turkic world, the high-level celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress. In this context, he recalled the recent signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding between ANAS and TÜBA within the framework of the 2026 Turkology Congress.”

In his remarks, President of TÜBA, Professor Muzaffer Şeker, expressed his sincere appreciation to Academician Isa Habibbayli for the warm reception and for the invitation to participate in the 80th anniversary jubilee meeting of ANAS. He once again congratulated the leadership, staff, and Azerbaijani scholars on this significant milestone.

Professor Şeker emphasized that, in the new realities created by the Organization of Turkic States in recent years, scientific cooperation among the Turkic world has entered a new historical stage. He underlined the particular importance of organizing the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress — a manifestation of Turkic unity in the 20th century — at the highest level, and assured that TÜBA will fulfill its role in this regard.

The meeting also included discussions on expanding cooperation between the two institutions.

It should be noted that Associate Professor Mürsel Doğrul, Chair of the TÜBA Young Academy, also attended the meeting.
