Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli, met with representatives of the Hong Kong Core Academy of the People’s Republic of China – Executive Council Member Professor Li Lei, Deputy Executive Secretary Professor Raymond J. Wu, Board Member Professor Yingsan Geng, and Secretariat Assistant Liu Lianzhi – who were visiting Azerbaijan as part of the Academy’s 80th-anniversary events.

Welcoming the guests at the meeting held at the Presidium of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli noted that there have been close cooperative relations between ANAS and the Hong Kong Core Academy for several years. He emphasized that their participation in the 80th-anniversary celebrations had been mutually beneficial and created opportunities for interaction with academic institutions from nearly 20 countries represented at the gathering.

Highlighting the broad prospects for joint cooperation, Academician Isa Habibbayli said he had reviewed the proposals submitted by the Hong Kong Core Academy and stressed that collaboration could be developed in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as artificial intelligence. He added that, following joint discussions of the proposals, a cooperation agreement between ANAS and the Hong Kong Core Academy could be signed in 2026.

Speaking next, Professor Li Lei, Executive Council Member of the Hong Kong Core Academy of the People’s Republic of China, expressed gratitude for the invitation to the 80th-anniversary meeting of ANAS and noted that they had witnessed historic moments. He added that during their visit, they held discussions on establishing cooperation with the Academies of Sciences and academic institutions of several countries. Professor Li Lei also stated that, after visiting a number of historical sites in Azerbaijan, he formed the impression that Azerbaijan’s history is older than China’s.

Expressing satisfaction with cooperation with ANAS, Professor Li Lei emphasized that they are good friends and partners of Azerbaijan and are interested in collaborating with Azerbaijani scholars in all fields. He noted their support for signing a cooperation agreement between ANAS and the Hong Kong Core Academy and stressed that they would continue working on the final document.

Following the speeches, the sides exchanged gifts and took commemorative photographs.
