Akademician Isa Habibbayli: “Restoring Falsified Armenian Toponyms Based on Historical and Geographical Facts Is Crucial for Azerbaijan’s Language and National Identity”

The requirements and tasks put forward by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev regarding the Azerbaijani language, terminology, and toponymy at the ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences will be extensively discussed at the Toponymy Commission of the Milli Majlis. The discussions are expected to involve not only the members of the Parliamentary Toponymy Commission, but also experts and writers engaged in these matters.

The restoration of toponyms in Western Azerbaijan and Karabakh that were artificially falsified by Armenians in accordance with historical and geographical realities and on a scientific basis is essential and important not only for the factor of the mother tongue, but also more broadly from the standpoint of Azerbaijani national identity.

These remarks were made by Academician Isa Habibbayli, Chair of the Toponymy Commission of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
